Derek Stanford has served as State Senator for Washington’s 1st District since July 2019; he previously held the office of State Representative from 2011 to 2019. He is the Senate Democratic Caucus Tribal Liaison and Chair of the Washington State Caseload Forecast Council.

Dr. Stanford runs a small data science consulting business. He previously worked as Director of Analytics for companies focused on fraud detection and customer insights. He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Washington, as well as an M.S. in Mathematics from Claremont Graduate University and a B.S. in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College. He lives in Bothell with his wife and children.
